james blake x kool haus

This past Sunday (Nov 10th) I saw James Blake live at the Kool Haus, near Queens Quay. I know I say this after every single concert I go to, but this concert was life changing. I felt like I was born again. And in a way, I think any good concert is (life changing), as long as you leave with something you didn't have before.

One thing I left with was utter respect for the skills James (you don't even understand how much I wish we could be on a first name basis) and his band have.... they are gods.

All tracks are played live on a drum kit and several different synth and keyboards. The singing, naturally, is live as well. With the taboo that seems to come with "electronic" music, there are many who discredit these artist saying all they do is push buttons.

James and Nosaj Thing (the supporting act) are definitely contesting that idea. They react to the audience, they feel the music like anyone playing a guitar. The creative process is not lost in electronic music because these artists are building songs from scratch in their minds, adding layers and depth that you sometimes cannot reach in any other genre.

But I'm getting a little off topic, OK back to the concert.

Here is what I wore:

*What? You didn't think I'd miss opportunity to have a photoshoot, did you?

papz caught me

h&m oversized blue green plaid button up
zara black tailored jacket w/ large white faux fur lapel
forever21 knee highs
h&m boots
h&m cutout dress
(saving money is my favourite thing)

The moment James first uttered the looping lines of I Never Learnt To Share,  the sheer magnitude of his voice live was felt throughout the crowd. There was a tangible electricity, most people in complete anticipation of the next hour and a half set.

I recorded a few of my favourite songs, they're not the best quality... sorry about that.

Beware there might be some profanity interlaced with Blake's crooning--the people around me were a tad rowdy.
**ALSO: I'M SO SORRY FOR MY TERRIBLE SINGING.. I couldn't help singing along...

The most memorable part of the night had to be when James got everyone to shut up (after a bit of difficulty--we were an easily excited crowd aha) for a full 7+ minutes as he sang the encore, Measurements. Some wonderful soul even filmed it.
